WHC 1s v Plymouth Marjon - Saturday 26th November 16

Result - Plymouth Marjon [2] –  [4]   Whitchurch

Whitchurch looked to make it three wins on the bounce this weekend with a chilly Saturday down in Plymouth. Morale was high after scoring 7 goals last week.

It was a bit of a rushed warm up thanks to the previous game overrunning but Whitchurch dealt with it well and came out working hard and pressing high. After some early interchanges the Whitchurch high press paid off and Jolyon Morgan intercepted a pass, lifted the ball past the centre back and fired a reverse across a helpless keeper to make it 1 – 0.

Whitchurch looked to assert themselves on the game and won a few short corners with Badger testing the keeper out. Undeterred by a lack of results from the short corner team the lads moved the ball around early and at pace and that created more chances. Seb Sheehan found himself with the ball in the D and got a slapshot off which Morgan then deflected past the keeper. The keeper got himself into a bit of a mess and ended up kicking the ball over the line himself but we’ve still given Jolyon the goal because he’s a nice lad.

Whitchurch went into half time 2 goals up knowing that Plymouth were a dangerous team and would be keen to get themselves into the game. Luckily for Whitchurch Adam Stone had other ideas and very quickly after the restart he went on an adventure from right back that culminated in a quick passing move from Whitchurch and ended with Sam Hubble sliding a sharp reverse past the keeper to make it 3-0.

As a team we’ve tried hard to keep the pressure up and thanks to some solid transferring and patience from the defenders we kept Plymouth quite quiet and continued to attack. Hassan Noor was pulling strings in the midfield and Ows and Badger were marshalling the defence nicely. Rory Flutter was using his pace to good effect in his final game for Whitchurch this season, and after some play down the right, Wilkinson seized the loose ball in the D and fired it back post for Jake Joyce to grab a welcome goal.

Plymouth then went to three at the back in a bid to get back into the game and some weak marking allowed them to score 2 goals in five minutes.  Whitchurch then defended up the pitch and narrower and closed the game out to take a deserved 3 points.
