Saints 2s v Rhondda Ladies 1s Match Report - 19th November 2016

Following a tough few weeks in Prem 1 Saints 2s travelled to play Rhondda, confident of a win to lift them into mid table. The team started brightly; great passing play between midfield and the forwards, and any Rhondda attack was stifled by the pressure exerted by Saints.

Noelle dominated the game from centre back, which didn't give Rhondda time to play their usual style of straight down the middle. They also found it difficult to break down the Saints attack; quick balls from defenders Vikki Stroud and Lynn Rees released the forwards into dangerous areas, although the final ball was not quite in the right place.

Saints perservered, and were rewarded with a goal from Amy Bowen, slotting the ball past the keeper from close range. The momentum and confidence stayed with Saints going into the second half. A four-pass move from the deep of defence & down the right flank culminated in a second goal, scored by forward Catherine Allin, with great support from Kat Lenan and Vikki.

A lapse in concentration near the end of the second half gave Rhondda the belief that they could get something out of the game. Their forward managed to sneak the ball past keeper Ffion Horrell to make the score 2-1.

Saints sealed it with around 10 minutes to go with a rare goal for defender Vikki from the top of the 'D'.

The score remained 3-1, which meant Saints jumped over Rhondda in the league table, and currently sit in 7th place. The 2s will play bottom of the table Swansea City 2s this coming weekend.
