 Whitchurch 3s s v Wooton Bassett Match Report 19th Sept 15'

Result: Whitchurch 4-1 Wooton Bassett

Whitchurch 3s took on Wooton Basset in their final pre season friendly before league begins next week.

Whitchurch started the game with a full press which forced the travelling side into some early mistakes. After some great play down the right hand side from Glen "The crab" Henley he picked out his former university of Glamorgan team mate Ryan "The horse" Morse in the D. Morse then faked the shot and anti skilled it into the back of the net, 1-0.

A Whitchurch attack was then well defended after the push back and the counter attack from Wooton found its way past the legendary Iwan "retired for 6 weeks" Williams, 1-1. Centre back Ben Thomas then took charge of the game and started firing the ball around and this new approach yield a number of short corners for Whitchurch, none were converted.  A Wooton attack was nullified and the counter attack from Whitchurch found another former University of Glamorgan player Tom "shades" Kelly in the D, who slotted home with some more anti skill, 2-1.

The second half began with Whitchurch trying the half court press. Ben Thomas then rotated himself into midfield to provide some trademark energy and running.  Some well worked long corner routines found Chris "air shot" Gierak in the right hand corner who smashed it knee height across the D and it was converted by Tom "shades" Kelly, 3-1.

The half court press worked well as Ben Thomas used his electric pace to burst forward from defence with the ball and found Ollie "kittens" Rendall at the top D who rounded a defender and calmly slotted past the keeper.

The game finished 4-1 to Whitchurch and provided a fitting send off to the Whitchurch hall of fame inductee Ben Thomas who is moving to Cheltenham.
