COACH ANNOUNCEMENT:

WSLHC are pleased to announce that Andy Hughes and Adam Broomfield have joined Whitchurch Hockey Club for 2015/16 as the WSLHC Coaching Team.

Andy takes on the role of Head Coach and will be leading the 1s and 2s training whilst Adam will concentrate on 3s, 4s and 5s.  They will offer WSLHC a coaching team working in conjunction with each squad in order to offer a focused and team specific approach. Both of these players have played senior high level hockey as GK and will jointly support the development of the GK’S.

Andy Hughes:

Andy is a young coach; at only 23 years of age he has taken over as Head Coach of Whitchurch Saints following two successful years at Cardiff University with the ladies 1st team. In this time Andy helped guide the University to 2 South Wales Premier League Titles, a Welsh Cup and 2 Varsity victories. Despite his age, Andy has substantial experience coaching a wide variety of age groups and abilities; having coached at Summer Camps, Player Development Centres and at National Age Group Level in the past.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities Andy plays in goal for Whitchurch and was part of last year's 2nd XI team which narrowly missed out on promotion. He has also represented Wales at under 16, under 18 and under 21 age groups and has a European bronze and silver medal to his name.

Andy is hoping to kick on from last year's successful season but also maintain a fun and sociable environment within the club. He is however determined to ensure that this year the hard work of all of the Saints teams translates in to victories on the pitch, points in the league table and trophies in the Whitchurch HC cabinet.

Adam Broomfield:

Adam has recently joined Whitchurch Hockey Club. Before moving to Cardiff last year he spent 13 years playing in Devon for Exeter Culm Vale Hornets. Adam’s coaching career started 8 years ago when he started coaching an under 18s team. He has coached both senior men’s and women’s teams at varying levels. At 21 Adam had the chance to go to Fiji and coach hockey in schools, this was an amazing opportunity where a lot was learnt, Adam is hoping to draw on this experience in his coaching at WSLHC.
