Whitchurch v. University of Exeter (8th March 2015)

After a long journey down south, Whitchurch arrived with high hopes of securing their second victory in the EHL this year.

After a steady warm up, Whitchurch started slowly, with Jake Joyce losing his stick and attempting a long barrier, resulting in an early green card. Exeter started strongly and put pressure on the Whitchurch defence. Whitchurch were further disadvantaged as Phill Wilkinson was given a green card for using explicit language too loudly. 3 quick goals from Exeter left Whitchurch with a hard task after half time.

Whitchurch started the second half strongly, playing with more confidence and with hopes of overturning the deficit. However, a breakaway from Exeter resulted in a powerful reverse shot into the top corner, leaving Iwan Williams again picking the ball out of the back of the net.

Whitchurch finished the game strongly, playing some decent hockey, but a lack of penetration left them reeling. The game finished 4-0 and Whitchurch head into the final game of the season next week against Bath.
