Whitchurch v Guildford

Following on from a narrow defeat last week against the Indian gyms, Whitchurch hosted Guildford with hope of a win. It was, alas, sadly not to be. The game started well and a good game of hockey was played with both teams creating shooting opportunities. Neither team could break the deadlock and it was goal-less at the break.

The second half however brought about a different story, a number of poor Whitchurch decisions led to cards being let loose. As this was happening Guildford took advantage and started crashing balls into the D and a lucky deflection found it's way to one of their players who's decoy shot fooled the usual safe hands of Iwan. Shortly after this Jake Joyce was given a yellow card for a dubious hack and when the teams were finally evened out, Guildford also suffered at the hands of the umpires. The game again began to flow and Whitchurch began to press for the equaliser. However a Guildford break was thwarted by Alex Keating and was deemed a yellow card and penalty flick offence giving the visitors their second goal.

Whitchurch continued to persevere with fine play from Tom Gwynne-Harris and Sam Jeffs but the game ended 2-0 to Guildford.

Whitchurch have a busy weekend next week with a double header away at Cheltenham and at home to Birmingham Uni.
